Cyclist in the mist

5.15 pm.
The school run is over and the after-school classes and activities haven't finished yet. Most of the shopkeepers have closed their doors and gone home, as have the shoppers. The commercial traffic has more or less finished for the day and nearly everyone has arrived at where they're likely to be for the next little while. There's little traffic on the highway and it won't be dark for a couple of hours.
If you really need to head down the highway in a thick mist, on a bicycle, it's probably not a bad time to choose.
His reflective jacket and fluorescent pants have probably saved his life many times, but I'd be adding an excess of flashing red and orange lights as well - you don't want the person who deliberately ran you off the road to be able to say they didn't see you.
Some drivers just hate all cyclists, regardless, and are willing to risk an unpleasant interview with the coroner (for starters) to demonstrate that hatred.
And there are the ubiquitous long-distance trucks. The drivers have been driving all day and want to get where they're going before dark. They're tired and impatient and usually going too fast. Some of them hate cyclists too, and their murder weapon is so big it may as well be a train.
This man is about as safe as a snail at a clog-dancing contest.
