Thirsty dog

I keep a bowl of fresh water by the front door, despite not having a dog. All the local cats drink from it, and any passing on-duty sheepdogs seem to know that it's available for a quick on-the-go refreshment.

Today I noticed that there was a 3 inch thick disc of ice in the bowl, and then I thought AHA!
