Muckspreading

In the winter when the cattle are kept in there is obviously a need to get rid of the muck and so it is spread over the fields to fertilise the soil or grass, whatever. It is an especially dirty and smelly job and unlucky for anyone driving along when the tractor is near the hedge!

The carrier came early this morning to load the ten animals going to Frome Market. They were sold for really good prices but unfortunately the money goes straight into paying the bills!

The vet came to TB test the two young bulls we have now sold as long as they pass the test. No animal, except those going to be sold for slaughter, can leave a holding without this test and we just hope the bulls will be all right since we have been lucky so far. If they have TB they are slaughtered and disposed of and we receive two-thirds of what they are worth. We shall know the results in a week's time when the vet returns and measures the size of the lumps under their skin where they were injected.
