Lewis Chessmen

Here are two of our Lewis Chessmen (well, not the originals). I like the expression of the rook or warder on the left.

The Lewis Chessmen were probably made in the 12th century in Trondheim, Norway. They were discovered in 1831 at Camas Uig on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis. Most of them now live in the British Museum in London, but there are 11 still residing in Scotland at the Museum in Edinburgh. There was a gathering of the chessmen last year in Edinburgh at the exhibition, the "Lewis Chessmen: Unmasked". It was great to see them altogether.
