Daffodils

Daffodils at the door in April
Three shawled Marys
A lark splurges in Galilees of sky

(George Mackay Brown)

Something in these words paints such a vivid picture for me , and one which I tried to convey in these sketches several years ago when I first read the poem.

His Lordship bought our first bunches of daffodils of the year today to brighten the house with their yellow joyfulness. They uplift the spirits when the world is so grey and dreich outside.
The Galillees of blue sky are sadly missing and also the lark, but then it isn't April in Orkney

Tomorrow the daffodils' shawls will open and the flowers will be revealed in full blown glory, giving a dazzling display on the window sill.
