Growing old disgracefully

By GOD

WALLFLOWER

Last summer, the Professor asked me if no-one planted wallflowers anymore, so I planted a pocketful of seeds. They have been sheltering in a pot behind the shed until I planted them out this afternoon. They are a bit frail and chewed about the edges, but as I teased them apart I could almost hear them sigh, wriggle their shoulders and settle down in their new surroundings. Apart from tidying, it is the first gardening job I have done this year. Ah, it feels good to be back.
