Flaxen morning

Morning run at the beach again. Overcast. Humid. Tide way out. What to photograph?

A heron alone in a nearby pool; except that not far away was a large black bird. Tried to get closer to identify it and the cormorant/shag spread its wings. Before I could raise the camera it was off and away.

Nearing the north end of the beach I noticed that the sun was shining between lower and upper bands of cloud giving a track of sunlight across the mudflats and pools. Positioning myself behind and to the side of a New Zealand flax I got this picture, and am quite pleased with it. In the bottom left corner are the leaves of a New Zealand cabbage tree. On the other side of the bay is Kawau Island

EDIT: For non-Kiwis, the tall spikes were flower stalks and now carry the seed pods.
