NZ native yellow eyed penguin feeding chick

And what a delicious meal - regurgitated fish - mmmmm

The chick had been chasing the mother demanding to be fed for quite some time before she consented to feed it.

The chicks are right at the point of being left to fend for themselves in many cases, and are as big or bigger than their parents. They will soon have to head out to sea to fend for themselves.

These birds nest in various places around the coast, in this case on a promontory with a lighthouse at the top at Moeraki in North Otago.

We had a Nature Photography Club trip over the weekend which was really great.
