Honiton Lace.

This is a piece of lace i designed (with the help of my teacher) and made when i was about 15. (nearly 20 years ago now :O )IT felt like it took an age to make!

I was lucky enough to be taught how to make lace by world expert Pat Perryman. I come from Honiton itself so it felt right i guess to learn the local trade. Unfortunatly there is no longer the shop there but in the museum i do believe theres an exhibition and still classes being taught there.

Honiton lace is the art of very fine bobbin lace. It was used to decorate the clothing of the nobility and the rich. They liked the lace made into collars, shawls, handkerchiefs, bonnets and flounces.

Queen Victoria was married in a Honiton lace veil and Queen Elizabeth II has a christening robe which has been used by her children and grandchildren.

Sadly i've mislaid a number of the pieces i made over time :( But my mum found this piece which was in an unpacked box in her attic :D I entered a number of the local craft shows when i was younger too and got a few 1st's and 2nd prices. I also had a piece published in a book too.

ITs something im looking forward to getting back into, Nearly got enough bobbins again to make a bigger piece but its certainly not a craft i can do while little fingers are around.
