Peregrination

35m below

Another cracking day of diving in Gorontalo. I'm gradually getting to grips with strobe now, so it was difficult choosing a blip today as there are few worthy shots from three great dives.

But I've gone with this shot of our dive guide, who suggested this wide angle shot and went and posed with his torch in front of a large sea whip down at 35m. The strobe doing its job bringing out the red coloration which would otherwise be missing that deep.

Shortly after this photo was taken we encountered a 1m+ napoleon wrasse and proceeded to briefly follow it down to 38m, before heading up to shallower depths. This was the deepest I've been in my 125 odd dives, and I definitely felt a little 'narc-ed' (nitrogen narcosis - at depth, nitrogen becomes toxic, leading to a 'drunk' sensation), which wore off a few minutes later.

In between dives we anchored in a secluded sandy cove along Gorontalo's rugged coastline. The jungle came right down to the beach and we listened to gibbons calling to each other in the valley above . It was great to think that we were on the only dive boat and divers for hundreds of miles.

Back in town now and we've just a fresh grilled snapper for dinner. Final day of diving tomorrow. I wonder what we'll see...
