Halnaker Windmill

Halnaker Windmill stands prominently on the South Downs, only a few miles as the crow flies from my house.

In the foreground of this shot is the ruins of one of the brick built towers around the windmill which, according to the entry on Derelict Places, were High Frequency Direction Finding stations, used in World War II to remotely determine the position of aircraft.

Sadly, on today's short walk to the windmill today with Children of Mine and friends, we discovered that three of the sails have been ripped off by this winter's storms - a stark contrast to how beautiful the windmill looked only last Spring, after being restored in 2004.
