Stenhouse-mooo-r

I took a trip into Stenhousemuir late this afternoon to pick up a library book I'd reserved and photographed these two wonderful creatures.

The two cast iron Highland cows are the work of leading Scottish public artist, Alan Potter. They were unveiled in the newly regenerated town centre in 2010.

The Highland cows represent Stenhousemuir's industrial, cultural and social heritage. Stenhousemuir was once the focus of all cattle drove roads of Scotland. Additionally, the Highland cow is the trademark of McCowan's toffee factory and its world famous Highland toffee bars. The Carron Iron works are significant in this area's past and present, so it seems fitting to have these wonderful cast iron cow sculptures gifted to the town.

Last year, McCowan's toffee factory went into administration marking the end of an era for the town.
