Not been on a train for years....

To get to the best souk in Luxor, I use the subway under Luxor Train Station and emerge from the darkness to a hectic, noisy, colourful street selling everything from potatoes to pigeons!

The temperature today was unusually high (Early 30's) and so commuters tempers rose with it as they waited to cross the railway crossing. Donkeys and carts, with music systems attached, car horns being used incessantly, motorbikes weaving between the foot traffic, mothers with children, men with shopping for their families....everyone is fighting to get to their destination and escape the heat.

I love airports and train stations, so I decided to take a wander around the platforms after I bought kilos of fresh vegetables. Fascinating places aren't they? You can imagine what you like about peoples lives, who they are, where they are going, what their jobs are etc etc...

It was also very noisy, trains and engines were arriving regularly. The heavy sound of the engine coupled with the horn being blasted! Platforms being jet hosed, people shouting on mobile phones and the fat controller making announcements over the tannoy, the chaos made me jump into a stationary train for a bit of rest bite!

This is a cabin from 3rd class, not a bit like British rail! The train was waiting to leave to Cairo, a journey of 721KM - Plenty of numb bums I think when you reach your destination 12hrs later!
