from where I am today

Not a hotel

This is a prisoner of war cell within Edinburgh Castle.
Each of the bays you see slept 4 on straw mattresses with another 4 sleeping above them in hammocks, I reckon there would have been about 60-70 prisoners sleeping in this room.

It was used as a prison during The American war of Independence, The Napoleonic War with France which was the first time there were soldiers and sailors imprisoned at the same time.

There is so much more to see in the Castle since our last visit. We did not have enough time to see all of it but will visit again very soon. Being members of Historic Scotland gives us free entry otherwise it's £14 per adult and £12.50 per Concession, and it's going up.

A great day out - it beats working.
