Mould/Fungus: Gross or Cool?

I hate mouldy food, it gives me the shudders. But this is totally different in a similar sort of way. Mould on your food is gross, but mould out in the (ahem) "wild" (a.k.a. the allotments) is very interesting. Even though I still won't touch it wherever it is, my sense of touch still hates it.
