Life is a Minestrone !!

"NNoooooooooooooooo"......!!!!!!!!!!!!

Caught in the act.............., Well almost............!!

He didn't have any luck, as i doubled up on the netting yesterday.

I initially dug the hole for the pond about 10 years ago, it's probably 20 to 22 feet long and about 6 feet wide and 4 feet at it's deepest point, with one end having a gentle slope so frogs and newts can come and go as they please. This "beach effect" also lets birds, wash and drink as they please. The area around the pond is planted with various plants, shrubs and tree's. We're really pleased with the way the whole area has matured, when we planted the area we only entertained plants that would attract butterflies, insects and birds, making the whole area a bit of a nature reserve.

I haven't over stocked the pond with fish, at the last count, there were 8 largish goldfish, 4 green tench and 10 golden orfe........

The only down side to all this lovelyness, are the local cats.......they lay in wait in the planted area around the pond, and pounce on any unsuspecting bird that happens by...........we have new feathers appearing every day which actually makes me feel quite guilty.

When i do occasionally spot a cat in amongst the shrubs, i go charging down the garden, but they're always up and over the fence before i get anywhere near, but they're generally back in position within a couple of hours.

If i can't find a way of deterring the cats i may just rip up the plants and put a Koi pond in and take my wildlife pond out............We'll see.

I know it's a shocking picture, but not as shocking as seeing a Heron standing over your pond.

Can be viewed large here....!!

Hope you're all well.
