Sopwith Camel

Before leaving London we visited the RAF museum. Saw an old glider, such as Mr PP learned to glide in with the Air Cadets, as well as a chipmunk, in which he learned to fly for his RAF Pilot's scholarship. I did consider leaving him there as part of the exhibition, his being so historical an' all.

But this tiny biplane is even older: a Sopwith Camel dating back to the First World War and flown by the '20-minuters' - Royal Flying Corps pilots so named as that was the extent of their average flying career before being shot down. The average age of each lost pilot was 22. Horrible times!

Spent the night being wined, dined and warmly accommodated chez my brother and sister-in-law in the wilds of Cambridgeshire. Very relaxing.
