Life is a Minestrone !!

Life in a Gold fish bowl........

We have a feeder stand right by the front room window, it's been there now for about four months. During those four months i've tried hanging various types of food on there to see which food the resident sparrows prefer.

Their prefered food by a country mile seems to be the mixed seed i buy from "The Fruit Basket" here in Gosport. I've tried various types of seed mixes and paid over the odds in some of the large pet stores, but the seed i'm getting the best results with is the cheapest i've come across in our area, without buying in bulk quantities that is. I have mentioned before that the sparrows roost in the hedges in our front garden, but the last time i saw a sparrow in our back garden must be four or five years ago, yet i have a feeder with the same seed in the back garden which has remained untouched for the last four months. Well i say four months, i change the seed every two weeks, the pigeons hoover up the old seed like it's their last meal.........

On that one stand in the front garden, i have the seed, plus one feeder of peanuts and a suet block, Strangley the peanuts have also been untouched, by any bird, Blue Tits included, they attack the suet block from all directions, but don't touch the nuts, yet the tits in the back garden, are all over the nuts like a rash.......

It's these little things that intrigue me with my resident birds, the Robin, Blackbird and this Collared Dove will quite happily sit a top the feeder, and i can virtually walk right up to the window and take their picture, but with ya sparra, i can't get within a gazzillion miles of the feeder, as soon as they twig me they're gone.........

Bigger Collared Dove here.............!!

I don't know if you watched "Birds Brittania" on the BBC, it's well worth a watch and i believe it's still available on the iPlayer.........

I hope you follow blippers are well...!!

Take care and stay warm..........
