Alesund

Alesund was the first 'proper' stop on my journey North with the MS Lofoten on the Norwegian Coast Voyage.

Alesund was one a typical wooden Norwegian fishing village, until it was razed by fire early in the 20th Century and reincarnated in Art Deco style.

Fishing and the sea have always been important to Alesund - this is one of several beautiful statues marking various aspects of this relationship.

There is more about my first day on board MS Lofoten on my Saturday blog.
