BP's Grangemouth Oil Refinery

I'm afraid a nights rest wasn't enough to stop the onset of Mrs L's migraine, so she spent today in a darkened room, whereas I had the scenic delights of BP's Grangemouth Oil Refinery.

Chose to revisit Kinneil Lagoon where we saw a Green-winged Teal in November 2010. It hung around until March 2011 and then re-appeared in November 2011 and has been reported on and off since then, so I was hopeful of finding it. Check out RCB's blip for the 2012 picture of the Green-winged Teal - in the two hours I was there it put in an appearance for two minutes.

The Kinneil Hide that today's picture was taken from was built by the Scottish Wildlife Trust as part of a joint Wildlife in the Community Project sponsored by BP Grangemouth. It overlooks the outflow of the River Avon into the Forth. My two visits have coincided with high tide which has suited well when looking for ducks, but the hide overlooks a vast area of mud flats that around low tide hold large numbers of waders - a revisit is definitely required, it'd be nice if it could be dry and warm for a change.

Back home, Mrs L had escaped her darkened room, not 100% yet, fingers crossed again that a nights rest can do the trick.
