Festive Finale

I can't remember having a better birthday than this one has been! Spreading the festivities out over more than a week has prolonged the pleasure, and the capstone event -- our night at the Chrysalis Inn & Spa in Fairhaven -- was the perfect finish.

Much as we love our home, it's lovely to get away now and then, particularly when the drive to get there is about 12 minutes, door to door! The Chrysalis is a beautiful building, Northwest contemporary in style, with wonderful use of wood, as shown in today's photo of Phil ascending the central staircase.

There's an attractive lounge/living room on the main floor for the use of guests, as well as a capacious patio looking out at the Taylor Dock walk. The guest rooms are soothing and luxurious, with wonderful touches like instant-on gas gas fireplaces and comfortable window seats overlooking Bellingham Bay.

The sumptuous bathroom had a deep, two-person soaking tub, as well as a handsome tiled shower, and thanks to sliding screens, just visible near the table lamp in this photo, we could relax in the soaking tub and look out into the bedroom, enjoying the dancing flames of the gas fireplace. When bathroom privacy was desired, the screens slid easily into place, covering the opening.

We had a delightful dinner in Fino Wine Bar, with a bottle of sparkling French wine that we finished in our room, and talked about returning for another night away soon!

(Thank you for all of the lovely birthday wishes and comments on my February 19th blip! I deliberately didn't take my laptop to the Chrysalis -- it was very relaxing to be away from it for a day! -- but will catch up with your journals soon.)
