Not had a lot of time recently to post a photo but anyway here's the view from where I work at the moment opposite the fork in the river Seine.

It's not a bad location, though there are too many tourists in the area gawping at Notre Dame.

Maybe you've read "The Fall of Paris: The Siege and the Commune 1870-71" by Alistair Horne. The City Hall was set on fire at the end of the siege after the force of reaction stormed the revolutionary headquarters.
