Pulley

The house we live in was built around 1911 and (so we are told) lived in by the builder then his daughter and her husband. We have the original architect's drawings, done beautifully in ink and watercolour, which our builder rescued from a skip. Daughter apparently rode round Oxford in a horse and carriage until at least the 50s, so there is a carriage house (not ours) across the road and an incongruous stable at the bottom of our small urban garden. Daughter died, then 20 years ago so did her husband, which was when we bought the house. It was filthy and needed lots of work (hence the builder). The stable and a large outside shed were full of 80 years of stuff.

We turfed out the junk and kept the interesting things, including this pulley, now in service at one end of our washing line.

I pottered in the garden for a couple of hours waiting for the sun to reach this; it is a completely glorious morning, so I'm back out now.
