Eye-openers

Walking over this ancient, stone bridge, as I frequently do, is a reminder of nature in her different moods. Usually, the clear water makes a lovely melody, which is literally music to my ears. Sometimes, though, the River Wnion is in spate and the dark waters rush past with frightening speed, bringing tree-trunks and other debris with them. Mallards, dippers, herons, red-breasted mergansers and goosanders can all be seen from the bridge at various times. I once sat by the river and listened to a dipper singing. It was exquisite!
