Rijksmuseum - Amsterdam

Before we left Amsterdam we made a stop at the Rijksmuseum to see the famous painting " de Nachtwacht" (The Night Watch) - Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn.
The overall picture shows the interaction between the painting and the audience. Tourist coming to see a famous picture and viewers standing still admiring the details and taking it all in.
There are so many beautiful paintings to be seen, therefor I made a collage for today's blip. Showing details just to give you a feel of our trip through history.
The descriptions are copied from the plaque next to the painting.

detail of The merry fiddler - Gerard van Honthorst.
A laughing fiddler raises his glass as if inviting the viewer to join.

detail of The Jewish Bride - Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn.
The painting is executed in an unusually free style which is especially evident in the man's sleeve, where the paint has been applied so thickly that it reflects the light.

detail of the Kitchen Maid - Johannes Vermeer.
Intent on the task, the kitchen maid pours milk from a jug. The compensition radiates a quiet calm, the only movement is the flow of milk into the bowl.
