T his is the memorial stone to the Scottish Americans that fell in the AMERICAN
CIVIL WAR.There is five buried round the stone.They are,Sgt MAJOR JOHN
Mcewan CO, H65 Regt ILLINOIS VOLUNTARY INFANTRY, WILLIAM DUFF Lt
Col 2nd ILLINOIS VOLUNTEERS , ROBERT STEEDMAN Coe 5 th Regt MAIN
INFANTRY VOLUNTEERS,JAMES WILKIE CO.C 1ST MICHIGAN CAVALRY,
ROBERT FERGUSON 57th Regt NEW YORK INFANTRY VOLUNTEERS.
They are all mention on the stone , which has a life size statue of LINCON on the top. To preserve the jewel of liberty in frame work of freedom . LINCOLN words written on a corner. It was paid for by Americans and unveiled on the 21st of august 1893. It was made from red ABERDEEN granite at a cost of six thousand and three hundred dollars. It is fifteen foot top to bottom It also bares two wreathes of thistles and cotton.
It is the only one outside U.S.A. the civil war. The slave holds a book to show that
education will take him forward.
