Grass of Parnassus

Tonight, instead of our usual beach walk, Ollie and I headed onto The Point, a boggy wild headland, left alone for the birds. In the spring eider ducks, skuas, herons, snipe, skylarks, mallards, short-eared owls, ravens and gulls nest out there. Apart from the odd bird watcher, dog walker, seal watcher and fisherman looking for lost creels, you don't see many folk out there and it is a wonderful spot for sitting and thinking, or just sitting!

At this time of the year most of the black, stinking, peaty, deep holes have dried and so it is quite safe to take Ollie without the risk of him plunging into them!

Just now it is a blanket of wild flowers, mainly bog cotton and ragged robin, but also with lots of Grass of Parnassus. It is such a beautiful flower, so delicate and lovely, my favourite of all wild flowers, I think.

Blip opportunities are like buses - none for ages and then along come several at once. Tonight I took 50+ flower shots, and then heading home there was the most splendid sunset - pink and gold, lighting up the sky. I hope someone managed to blip it!
