To See New Englandly

Blueberry's Cousin (Many Times Removed)

Instead of emptying the dishwasher from last night and doing the morning dishes, I spent my time after breakfast googling Indian Pipes. I found out they're not fungi, after all, but that they're related to azaleas and blueberries. They're also known as ghost plants or corpse plants, and the tops are actually a flower. They do not use photosynthesis as their source of energy; they depend on fungi which, in turn, are parasites of certain trees.

I dunno 'bout you, but I find this infinitely more interesting than housework. No wonder some days it can take all day to empty the dishwasher.

(Here they are in "color")
