"The Last Supper" by Stuart Duffin RSA

Oil on Canvas 2012. 190cm x 360cm.

We were invited to the launch of this very special artwork, recently hung in Langside Parish Church, Ledard Road, Battlefield, Glasgow.

Stuart had painted a similar work which was destroyed in a fire in May 2009. Soon after, as plans were put in place to rebuild the church, the congregation commissioned him to paint another version. It has taken over a year to complete.

The work features members of the Duffin family, including our friends Esther, Tim and Jamie who are the band Ashton Lane, and Graeme, Stuart's older brother, lead guitarist in the band Wet Wet Wet.

Stuart spoke about the work, and much of the imagery contained here and plans to update his website soon, with more details. It was quite moving to attend this, and be amongst the people featured in the work.

Over the centuries, the worldwide church has commissioned great works of art and I think it would be good to see more of this happening today.

It is interesting to compare with the original Leonardo da Vinci here.
