Gettin' Better

Gomez

Let me introduce you to Gomez. He lives in San Ignacio at the Iguana Project. Some people in Belize eat iguana and the populations are dwindling. The intent of the Iguana Project is to breed iguanas and raise them until they are older and larger and have a greater chance of surviving "on the outside". My memory is they are typically released around the age of 3, but I could be wrong about that. When you visit the Iguana Project, you step inside and interact with the iguanas. We got to hold them, pet them and feed them. Then we went next door to the babies and within minutes, we literally had baby iguanas all over us. It was a real treat.
