My Year in Pictures

Backblipped 5th March

Managing to get the knack of bag packing and sorting now - getting into a bit of routine about what works best thankfully!

Walking was a lot more relaxed today and the 18 of us spread out much more which was so much better.

Walked along a dry river bed for a while and saw hundreds of camel that belonged to a nomadic camp. Had fun during a morning break when one of the girls went to sit on a branch and discovered an adder! As I only had my 50mm with me didn't take any pictures as there was no way I was going close enough to see it!

More dunes, camels, goats, a woman selling necklaces and a couple of children later it was lunchtime again.

One of the girls had the first sand disaster over lunch - her camera fell out of her bag face down into the sand and got buried and wouldn't open. I had my point and shoot with me as back up so was able to lend it to her so she'd be able to take her own pictures which was good. A lot of swopping of things went on during the trip actually - one of the really nice things about the group - I certainly ended up with a wee pile of things that had to be returned on the last day and vice versa!

The afternoon saw dunes, dunes and more dunes. Thankfully there was a good wind and some clouds in the sky which kept the heat off us - and I loved the clouds for adding something extra to the pictures. They were really weird though as they seemed to cover much more of the ground than they do at home - a weeny cloud covered the desert as far as you could see which was most strange. Also had fun playing the alphabet game where you choose a subject - say famous people and once the first person has gone the next one has to say another one starting with the first letter of the previous ones name - so for example Adam Ant followed by Abraham Lincoln - lots of fun.

The dunes really were quite incredible today and much more what you'd expect when someone says "Sahara" to you - though they certainly give your thighs a workout as you go up them!

Camp at Bourgarnne started with group stretching led by Anna - though I didn't join in as I was having fun taking pictures! Another wet wipe wash before climbing the highest dune near camp to watch the sun go down which was just stunning - we could see for miles.

Dinner was veggie spag bog - yummy - and then bed around 9pm again! We certainly know how to party in the Sahara!
