Harold's Tower

I could see Harold's Tower from my office window, but tonight was the first chance I had to have a closer look while it was still light.

The building is a mausoleum, although it's sadly now falling into disrepair. The plaque over the door reads "The burial place of the Sinclairs of Ulbster". A quick google search suggests it was built by Jon Sinclair around 1780 - 1790 on the sight of a ruined chapel, and marks the spot where the Norse Earl Harold the Younger was killed during the Battle of Clardon Hill in 1196.

Not sure why he gave it such a bulbous form, or at what point it was pebble-dashed either...
