Introducing Blue.

Blue the peacock just turned up five years ago, and stayed.

He has made his home in the large chicken run, but his range extends to the woods and farm yard. He likes to roost at night on the cottage roof in the lee of the chimney stack.

We got Blue two peahen girlfriends, one disappeared soon after her arrival. The other, hung around for a year, made a nest in the woods and got eaten by a fox, while brooding the eggs. Blue never showed any interest in her, so we're pretty sure the eggs were not fertile.

Apart from being love with himself, Blue has a passion for police cars and ambulances - in fact any vehicles with a siren. If he hears a siren at any time of day or night he calls back with gusto, that sets the Guinea Fowl off, they wake up the Cockerels and invariably the Tawny Owls join in too. The Owls' twitting and twooing is a signal to the gun dogs to start barking - all five of them.

Who said it was quiet in the countryside?

At this time of year, Blue doesn't need a police car to turn him on, he's calling and displaying constantly.

I'm not sure what the term is for being attracted to police vehicles, any ideas?
