Michael Jackson vindicated

I always thought it was a silly publicity stunt but, it seems, Michael was just showing his knowledge of Greek myth.

I spotted this wonderful statue in the V&A at lunchtime. It represents Thetis dipping Achilles in the River Styx in order to protect him from harm. We all know the rest of the story...but just in case...he was eventually killed when shot in the heel with an arrow because that was the only part that wasn't dipped. Silly Mrs Thetis.

Clearly what Michael was doing was merely protecting the child by dipping him in the air. The child now needs to take care with any arrows aimed at his neck.

The statue was made my Thomas Banks (1735-1805). Interestingly the faces of Thetis and the baby were modelled on his wife and child.
