Growing old disgracefully

VEGETABLE GARDEN

I've been feeling a bit ambivalent about the garden recently, which is unusual given how much I love gardening and this garden in particular. When I walked around it, I felt a bit overwhelmed by all the jobs that need to be done. But I got back my energy and enthusiasm once I had started. Three of the seven veg beds are now cleared and manured and the garlic planted last year is growing strongly. There was also quite a lot still to harvest - the last of the leeks which are slim, but sweet and lots of Brussel sprouts - or 'Brussel smouts', as our grandson calls them.
