Onboard the 19:02 from Newcastle

On my way back to London from Newcastle on Sunday night, our train was involved in an incident at a level crossing. I was in the first carriage. We heard an almighty bang, the train shuddered, and then we had an "emergency stop".

The guard came over the tannoy and announced that the driver had told him that he thought we had hit something on the line and he would go and investigate.

A few minutes later, a further announcement told us the driver had found a body on the line. It seems the someone was stuck and killed at the level crossing. Horrible.

We were delayed for almost two hours while the police and emergency services were called.
