Frit

My good lady tells me that for a flower to be worth growing it must have anice colour and a sweet scent. The genus fritillaria offers mostly dull coloured flowers with unpleasant scent .... so they're no good!

Fritillaria raddeana, related to the Crown Imperial, Fritillaria imperialis, is at least a pleasant soft yellow in colour. About 15 inches tall it grows in the wild in the mountains from Turkmenistan through Iran to Kashmir. Not difficult to grow, this one was raised from seed.
