Et in Arcadia Ego
Back-blipping following overnight stay on the remote Shetland island of Whalsay. This is the view of the inland loch at Isbister from the garden of my friend Annie's house. The house is called Arcadia, hence the title of this post: meaning "even in Arcadia (an unspoiled harmonious wilderness) I (Death) exist.
Later that evening the clouds and rain miraculously cleared away and we had a fantastic view not only of Jupiter and Venus but also of the Northern Lights. This was my first view of the Mirrie Dancers, as they are known up here. Very moving, and a good reminder that the universe keeps on doing its thing regardless of what we humans get up to.
