Ireland

This week my colleague from Cork asked me if I knew the colours of the Irish flag. A little surprised at how easy the question was, I answered, 'Green, white and orange'. In return I got that smile of those with a long history of being oppressed by the English. (I've seen it in many places.) 'Just wondered what you'd call it,' she said, 'We call it gold. The green is for the south, the gold is for the north and the white is for the peace between us.'

I have a busy day today so decided I'd grab a quick blip for St Patrick's Day at the market this morning (avoiding the oranges). Green and gold were easy; I struggled a bit with the white between.
