The white house

At the very head of Glen Massan, where the hills surround an unexpected, flat area with the river meandering in a manner very different from its subsequent plunge down the gorge of the middle glen, there is a white house. I have never seen anyone there, though in recent years huge earth-moving machines have created a new artificial lake in front of it.

Presumably in Victorian times there were shooting parties here, and there is a watchtower - for fire-watching? game spotting? - beside the forest to the right of the glen. Some highland cattle graze in a field and buzzards mew overhead, but other than the odd hiker heading for Ben More I have never met anyone in this upper part of the glen.

Photo taken with my new iPhone - I'm impressed at what it can do.
