Karin and I hosted a dinner party on the weekend. We invited my oldest friend Jim and two very long time friends, Derek & Jane. It has been far too long since we had a dinner party.
More than a year ago I was at a fundraising dinner and there were a couple of wines up for auction. This 1976 sauterne from Chateau d'Yquem was one of them and I have been waiting a long time to set up a dinner with the right people to feature it. This sauterne was a real hit. Karin had made some lovely meringues with berries and whipped cream to go with.
We also had a gorgeous 1988 burgundy but it was, sadly, a bit of a disappointment.
I am not sure Karin will be well pleased with this choice of picture. I think it's nice, but we've had a *lot* to drink by this point in the evening and she's getting a little tired. I wish I had taken a picture of the dinner table about now. I think there were five or six bottles of wine we had consumed. After dessert I got out a bottle of Ardbeg to finish off the evening (and us! :D ).
[edit: replaced the image with a b&w version. I like it better this way]
