Fi's Foibles

It's a dog's life

I think we can safely say that Jack has survived his first day with us; and we are (relatively) unscathed, too.

Things we've learned about Jack today:
He barks at bicycles
And postmen
For such a small dog, he has a very loud bark. He also snores very loudly.
If you don't get to the post first, he will shred it for you' without even checking that it's definitely junk mail (note to self: must buy one of those 'cages' to fit on the back of the letterbox)
He likes coffee (black, one sugar), but thinks it tastes nicer when sucked out of the carpet rather than directly from the mug
He also likes water - preferably out of the bird bath rather than his own bowl
He's scared of squirrels, and pigeons, and the sound of the wind flapping the plastic polytunnel; and if he must be within earshot of bath water gurgling down the plughole, then he'd rather do so from under my bed - regardless of what obstacles may be in his way.
He can tie a knot in an extending lead, without touching either end of it
He may have been castrated, but he's all dog: he will attempt to 'hump' the leg - or arm - of anybody foolish enough to lay on the floor
He is selectively deaf: especially when it comes to the word "Sit"
For a dog who came to us with the information 'loves to play ball', he's dreadfully careless with his favourite toys: he has so far chomped his way through the two dog balls bought in his honour from the pet shop, & is already making inroads into the 'extra heavy duty' one purchased today as a replacement. When not trying to eat balls, he does indeed love playing with them.
He tries hard to be fair about sharing out his affection: he's not nearly so 'needy' as he was yesterday, but has still made sure that hubby & I have each had our fair share of licks & lap time.

And after working so hard at instructing us about himself today, who can blame him for being worn out?

Yes, it definitely feels like a dog now lives here.
