How lucky am I? Spent the day in the company of six fabulous guide dog puppies, their puppy walkers and trainers.
So here are some facts about guide dogs for you.
There are about 4,700 working guide dogs in Britain.
The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association breed over 1000 guide puppies each year.
Dogs found to be unsuitable for guiding are often found alternative careers with other assistance dog organisations.
Dogs wearing a brown harness are in training, those wearing a white harness are qualified and working with their blind or partially sighted owner.
The working life of a guide dog is about six and a half years.
The cost of a guide dog to its owner is a nominal 50p
It costs £50 000 to train a guide dog
1/3 are funded through legacies.
You can sponsor a guide dog as an individual or as an institution such as a school.
You should never distract a guide dog when it is working, however cute it is.
They are ALL unspeakably cute!
