See The World

Australian Outback? No, Deepcut Village, Surrey.

Walked the dog around the woods in Deepcut, Surrey today. Whilst driving through the village of Deepcut, I pulled over when I spotted the Garrison Church.

Built in 1901, it just looks like an old colonial building from the Australian outback, transported in time to 2012. The building is constructed from corrugated iron, and up close, it is impressive.

It is best summed up by the description given by an Army Land Agent:

"A corrugated iron structure of dubious architectural antecedence and indeterminate age"

Still, I think it is a great example of a functional building used to serve the military in the period before the Great War (WW1).

You can view the full history of this church here.
