Botanical gardens and peculiar vegetables

23.03.12

Today started with a visit to a gem factory where they classify precious and semi precious stones for jewellery production. Princess Diana's sapphire in her engagement ring (now Kate's) came from Sri Lanka.

We then went on to the botanical gardens in Kandy which is where Lord Mountbatten lived when he was commander and chief of the allied forces in south east Asia during the second world war.

There were many signs around the gardens telling lovers to behave as it would appear young couples use the ancient and sometimes misshapen trees to conoodle behind which is not allowed in the buddhist religion, even married couples are allowed to kiss in public.

The afternoon consisted of not a lot, dip in the pool and repacking ahead of moving up to the tea plantations in the morning.

This blip is from the vegetable market in Kandy a variety of weird and wonderful vegetables are on display as well as standard more recognisable ones.
