Climbing up to the roof

This is my friend Vikki Jackson, a fellow artist. She paints wonderful acrylics of wildlife and cats. She is a biologist and paints the things she knows and loves. Today I drove to her house to photograph her paintings in exchange for one of her cat paintings. Her home is quite unique. It is built into the side of a hill and the roof is a field of grass. Here we are climbing up the hill next to her garage to walk on the roof, a grassy lawn that they mow regularly. It's a cool place. They have laid out the inside of the house so that the south facing windows on the side out of the hill provide illumination for the whole house. They bought the house as it was but added more glass doors to enhance the lighting within. I had a great morning with Vikki. We had nettle pesto with sheep cheese on French bread for lunch. Vikki made the pesto herself and it was delicious.

For the curious, here are some additional photos of the house I visited today.
