The Forsythia Saga

A joy to behold in early spring, especially against such an amazingly blue sky, there's more to Forsythia than meets the eye.

A member of the olive family, it protects its reproductive parts in rainy weather by the flowers becoming like pendants rather than more upright.

And rumour has it that its flowers are able to produce lactose (the milk sugar), which is very rarely established in other natural sources except milk. Its actual fruit is a dry capsule, containing several winged seeds.

I think this one is Forsythia x intermedia.

Was unable to blip over the weekend so have missed everyone's entries. Will try to catch up today!
