Napiers

This herbalists in Henderson Row has closed down but there still seems to be a medical herbalist there, just not the shop any more which is a real shame. The main one in Bristo Place is still there.

Napiers has been going since 1860 and was very popular, in part because Duncan Napier was helpful towards people who could not afford to pay very much and also in part because "conventional" medicine in those days included doing things which just made people even more sick such as blood letting, vomiting, laxatives and giving medicine which contained arsenic or mercury.

Nowadays people tend to turn to herbal medicine to help with minor complaints which are often shrugged off by conventional doctors who tend to just look at you and say there is nothing they can do about whatever is wrong with you.
