Diggit.

A tale of plumbing.

Our base here is self sufficient in plumbing and water. We draw up from a well and have a mini sewage plant which sprays slightly smelly recycled water on the fields. Other waste water gets taken to drainage pits just far enough away from the houses to not be a problem to the buildings.

When our bath was filling up everyday and not draining away Roy, one of our workers with 20 years of service here, knew straight away. He dug open our 2ft x 1ft x 1ft drainage pit to find it clogged and muddy. So he set the guys on the task of digging a new one. We now have two linked 4ft x 4ft x 4ft pits filled with rocks to disperse our water more effectively. Roy says it should last 20 years.

Anyhow I was fascinated by the whole process! Who needs municipal plumbing. I was also amused by these guys digging in bare feet and slops. Immediate UK health and Safety fail? I love Africa!
