Cadboro Bay Village

My local.

Sandy is filling Patsy's car with expensive gas. William is serving coffee at Olive Olio's to the die-hards who won't go to Starbucks, behind me where the bank used to be. Vicki is selling travel dreams at the corner, and Amber is selling literary dreams in the bookstore. Peppers grocery, just out of sight at the far left, is 100% locally owned (signs say that). That's because Thrifty's, the biggest food retailer in Victoria, was bought out by Sobey's. Just beside the gas station, the local pub, Smuggler's Cove, opened a retail outlet but it charges more than the liquor store, so you pay for convenience. In Canada, most beer, wine and alcohol is sold in government-controlled distribution outlets, unlike the US where you can buy beer and wine in any grocery store, and hard alcohol most places (including gas stations, go figure).

The poster affixed to the gray post box at the centre of the photo says: "Anarchy is love, so much Love there is only chaos." - Brother Raven

Same old, same old.
